Ratatouille

September 9th, 2007 by kim-angelyn

9/9/07 (Sun)

Watched the animation show, Ratatouille with my guy 2 weeks ago, and totally enjoyed it, hee… Its pronouced as "Rat-A-Too-Ee!!!", repeat after me, "Rat-A-Too-Ee!!!", hahaha. Been repeating this way too many times until it kindof drive my guy nuts, lolzz…

Quoting the synopsis from GV website;

" In the hilarious new animated-adventure, RATATOUILLE, a rat named Remy dreams of becoming a great chef despite his family’s wishes and the obvious problem of being a rat in a decidedly rodent-phobic profession. When fate places Remy in the city of Paris, he finds himself ideally situated beneath a restaurant made famous by his culinary hero, Auguste Gusteau. Despite the apparent dangers of being an unwanted visitor in the kitchen at one of Paris’ most exclusive restaurants, Remy forms an unlikely partnership with Linguini, the garbage boy, who inadvertently discovers Remy’s amazing talents. They strike a deal, ultimately setting into motion a hilarious and exciting chain of extraordinary events that turns the culinary world of Paris upside down.

Remy finds himself torn between following his dreams or returning forever to his previous existence as a rat. He learns the truth about friendship, family and having no choice but to be who he really is, a rat who wants to be a chef. "

I really liked the night scene of Paris City when Remy looks out from the window. Meismerizing and beautiful… One of the most impressionable scene to me is the part where alot of rat friends of Remy helping Linguini to prepare the dishes when all of his chef left him when he told them the truth. Kindof disgusting at first, but find it to be cutez later on. Why cutez, well, if you look carefully at their actions. Example, one of the rat was sitting on top of a cheese and sliding it down a grater, inorder to grate the cheese, lolzz. (Well, as you can see, what tiny rats have to do inorder to cook.)

Most important of all, it is not just a hilarious show only and I feel that there is an inspiring message behind the story. Which is "Anyone can dream Big and To Follow Your Dreamz!!!" and also the most difficult thing to attain while doing so, is not to lose yourself and forget who you really are…. Guess our little rat friend here, Remy does accomplishes that. And also, even the most expensive delicacies in the world cannot be compare to simple dishes that brings back fond memories…

Well, I may just watch it again when the DVD is out soon…

Some pics courtesy of Yahoo movies web page for you to enjoy.

& Oh… I really adore the scene where our rat friend, Remy cooking and flipping an omelette. Small one for himself, big one for Linguini.

Cosmetics - Blusher Review

May 12th, 2007 by kim-angelyn

12/5/07 (Sat)

Whoever say that you have to spend a bomb on cosmetics to prettify yourself. :) For me, I don’t spend more than $30 per item for eyebrow pencil, eyeshadow, mascaras, lipgloss and my fav; blusher. Reason because I believed that the average lifespan of the above is about 3 mths. Of course, I am also guilty of using one of them for more than 3 mths, with the exception for mascaras. Because I am a contact lens wearer, and I do not wish to risk having any eye infections.

I chanced upon this cute blusher at Watsons. Haha, you must have think that I frequent it alot. Yep, yep, you are right. It has become a neccessity store for the nitty gritty.

I was attracted to the packaging at first. Simple black colour box, imprinted with small hibiscus flowers design. At first I thought that the brand may be from either Japan or Korean, as these 2 countries produce quite alot of cosmetics. Especially Japan, I went gaga the last time I was there over so many of their fanciful design packaging products ranging from chocolates sold at convenience store to cosmetics range…  but upon researching online, I was wrong. It’s from Taiwan, and a completely unknown brand. And I found this link:

http://www.masayo.com.cn/english/index/chanpinjieshao.htm

It is not in the usual compact form, but it is in a loose powder consistency. The powder feels quite fine, with fair bit of shimmer, but with a faint synthetic smell. But considering that the price is only $8.90 per pop, you would forgive & overlook on the smell part, hee… The cute thing is, the round container comes attached with a soft sponge puff, where you can gently shake it once or twice and directly apply the powder onto your cheek. This proves to be a real convenience where you do not have to fumble for the brush, especially on a girls night out where the space of your purse may be limited and you want to be fuss free. And on top of the cap comes with a small mirror, where you can touch up anywhere you are. I think quite thoughtful for the design.

It comes in 4 shades (No. 1 to 4). I got the shade No. 2, as I believed the softer pink shade is more natural than peachy or bright pink. The last thing I would want is to look like a wayang singer, haha!

I took some pictures which you can refer to. Pardon for the "not so clear" pic as I took them with my hp. Till I get my digi cam, hee…

On the whole, I would rate it on a scale of 7/10.

Well, if you have used it, do let me know your feedback. (^.^)

Shoes, Feet & Blisters……

May 11th, 2007 by kim-angelyn

12/5/07 (Sat)

"Shoes"… To me, it is a LoVe & HaTe affair, sighz… To many women out there, it is a fetish. This makes me think of a jap serial where the female lead describe love as in searching for a pair of ideal shoes that belongs to you only. Some ladies, despite that the shoe is in a smaller size, bear and grit with the pain and continue wearing it. But since it doesn’t fit you, cause you so much agony, why not chunk it away?…

The other day, I was wearing one of my fav pair of white strappy sandals (slightly high heeled) and the abrasion caused big painful blisters at the back of my heels .. arrghhh… hate blisters, want to banish them forever!!! The amazing thing was, I have been wearing it like upteems times and it doesn’t cause me any problems until that faithful day. This really got me baffled… hmm… was it my walking posture? Or the make of the shoe?  Or… I gave up. To me, I would never sacrifice comfort over the design. But at most times, you have to at least wear the shoes for a day to determine if it will cause you any problems or not… ahh, similiar with relationships… gotta give it a go first mah, or else how to know…

Anyway, just sharing one of my experiences here, which I’m sure most women wilI encounter with their new pair of shoes. Some people say you have to "bite" the new shoes or it will "bite" you back. I say rubbish! Waxing on the parts that will cause abrasion also doesn’t work for me. So far, there is only one method that does. Rubbing some petroleum jelly on both the shoe and your feet (not the whole feet hor, just the usual parts that will cause abrasion or depending on the design), for the first time wearing a new pair of shoes. Repeat doing that several times during the mid-day. But note, to avoid smearing on the bottom part of the feet, as it can be quite slippery… imagine your feet keep slipping out of the sandals, haha… Btw, petroleum jelly can be bought at any pharmancy or watsons.

Another useful product which I chanced upon at Watsons is the following; Dsc00266 Dsc00267 Dsc00265

Maybe most of you have already seen it before. It is available in many other brands. The one I bought is a pair of insoles that you can insert into your shoes for additional comfort. The material is jelly-like and quite comfortable indeed. They also comes in strips and other sizes, to protect abrasion for the heel and various parts of the feet. The price per pair is btw 7-10 bucks, on the ex side, but I think if it can prevent blistering and provide comfort, it is worth the money after all. Perhaps ladies with the same problem as me can try it out or the cheaper version, "Petroleum jelly".

Hope the above will be useful to you! (",)

**Tips for the guys: You may want to get the above for your gf the next time you see them wearing shoes & kena blisters. (But make sure you get the right type.) Shower them with a little TLC is always nice, hee…

Stormy Weekends

April 8th, 2007 by kim-angelyn

8/4/07 (Sun)

Yesterday morning attended a friend’s ROM session, after which we proceeded to have lunch at a chinese restaurant. Really happy for the married couple. (",)

Driving on our way bac wif my guy, it was raining a "Storm". Really! Heavy downpour with thunders & lightening. The roads were flooded and hardly any visibility.. scary. We were drenched just by walking a short distance from the carpark to the block. Anyway, it usually rain during the chinese QingMing Festival… don ask me why, I just know loh… Plus, today raining oso…

Sianz ya, tomorrow bac in d office…. Hope to see Sunshine again! Can’t do without it! And yet days ago, I was complaining about the sorching sun, how contradicting I am…

Well, like what a fren of Pauolo Coelho asked him "What is the human being’s funniest characteristic?" Cohen said "Our Contradictoriness. We are in such a hurry to growp up, and then we long for our lost childhood. We make ourselves ill earning money, and then spend all our money on getting well again. We think so much about the future that we neglect the present, and thus experience neither the present nor the future. We live as if were never going to die, and die as if we had never lived."….. how true it is… hmm… my exact sentiments indeed…

Btw, I came across a song by Jamie Cullum which I find it to be nice & soothing. Also find the lyrics to be meaningful (for couples).

Enjoy it….

What a difference a day made, twenty four little hours

Brought the sun and the flowers where there use to be rain

My yesterday was blue dear

Today I’m a part of you dear

My lonely nights are through dear

Since you said you were mine

Oh, what a difference a day made

There’s a rainbow before me

Skies above can’t be stormy since that moment of bliss

That thrilling kiss

It’s heaven when you find romance on your menu

What a difference a day made

And the difference is you, is you

My yesterday was blue dear

Still I’m a part of you dear

My lonely nights are through dear

Since you said you were mine

Oh, what a difference a day made

There’s a rainbow before me

Skies above can’t be stormy since that moment of bliss

That thrilling kiss

It’s heaven when you find romance on your menu

What a difference a day made

And the difference is you, is you, is you

A Book By Paulo Coelho

March 24th, 2007 by kim-angelyn

1/4/07 (Sun)

Currently I’m reading a book by Paulo Coelho, titled - Like The Flowing Rivers, Thoughts & Reflections.

Paula_coelho

It consists of short stories and some very inspiring indeed…

One of them goes like;

” The Piece of Bread That Fell Wrong Side Up.

We all have a tendency to believe in ‘Murphy’s Law’: that everything we do will turn out wrong. Jean Claude Carriere has an interesting story about precisely that feeling.

A man was quietly eating his breakfast. Suddenly, the piece of bread that he had just spread with butter fell to the ground.

Imagine his surprise when he looked down and saw that it had landed buttered side up! The man thought he had witnessed a miracle. Excited, he went to tell his friends what had happened, abd they were all amazed; because when a piece of bread falls on the floor, it nearly always lands buttered side down, making a mess of everything.

‘Perhaps you’re a saint,’ one friend said. ‘And this is a sign from your God.’

Soon the whole villaghe knew, and they all started animatedly discussing the incident: how was it that, against all expectations, the man’s slice of bread had fallen on the floor buttered side up? Since no one could come up with a credible answer, they went to see a Teacher, who lived nearby and told him the story.

The Teacher requested that he be given one night to pray, reflect, and seek divine inspiration. The following day, they all returned, eager for an answer.

‘It’s quite simple really,’ said the Teacher. ‘The fact is, that the piece of bread fell exactly as it should have fallen, but the butter had been spread on the wrong side.’

Moi Birthday BKK Trip (PART I)

March 23rd, 2007 by kim-angelyn

23/3/07, Fri

I’m back from my BKK trip! But I dont want to be back le….

It is ONE long awaited trip which I’ve finally made it together with my 2 of my best chummies (we have known one another for 15 yrs!!!) OMG, can you imagine how old am I now, hee… and it is a trip that has finally materialize after all the talks & planning since Aug last year, haha.

Most happy of all, it was during moi birthday! What else could I ask for….

We stayed at Baiyoke Sky Hotel, supposedly to be BKK tallest hotel, but the service was only so so….
infact the front-desk service staff’ acted quite aloof & lukewarm. What happened to the friendly Thai people??! And also, the hotel lobby is not on the ground floor. Its on the 18th, if I did remember correctly.
Our room is on level 46, therefore, first of all, we have to take the lift up to the lobby, then, take another lift up to our room. For daily buffet breakfast, we have to take another lift up to the 76th floor.

Sounds confusing?? haha, I was at first, but somehow got used to it during my stay there.

Despite the swopping lift inconveniences & so so service standard, the only few consolations was that the room was damn big…
Imagine after adding in the extra bed (3 of us share a room), there was enough space for us to play a game of badminton, lolzz..

Plus the view from our room was awesome. The breakfast buffet spread was also quite sumptous, with lotsa variety to choose from. There were Thai noodle soup, japanese sushi, prata, omelette & toast, waffles, cereals, porridge, sweet rice cakes, sausages, fruits, corn soup, ….. sounds more like a normal buffet hor, hee… Yummi!! Infact, this is the only thing that was quite worth it, as its included in our travel pkg, hee….

Not to worry about the hotel location though its not conveniently linked to their sky train. Coz you can always take a taxi which cost about 100baht (S$5) to most of the location we go. Just remember to etiher bargain for the price they quote or requst them to switch on the taxi-meter.
Hitching a tuk tuk is almost the same price. I really enjoyed the tuk tuk rides, was so fun & fast ;D

On the first day morning, after makan breakfast, we headed to MBK for some shopping “warm up” first, but was disappointed to find the things there to be expensive and not “bargainable”, hmm…. I spotted a pair of bikinis which I find it kindof ex loh, which cost about 350baht (S$16). But I really like the colourful strips design, and bought it anyway. This is also my ONLY purchase at MBK.

After sometimes, our tummy growling, we pop by a shop which supposedly specialise in Sharksfin & Birdnest soup. We decided to give a try.

I ordered the supposedly Top-Premium birdnest soup, which cost about 1,100baht (S$50) but was aghast to find that they did not pick the birdnest clean enough before cooking. Was actually quite turn off to find many small specks of feather inside the soup. The Sharksfin was not so costly, about 350baht, but can hardly taste any big chunks of it…. hmm…
Anyway, guess it shall be the first & the last time there ;p

After lunch, we shopped at several other popular places such as the Siam Square, Siam Center etc… too many names I can’t remember clearly, but its all within walking distances of MBK, just cross the overhead bridge and walk further down.
Along the way, there are also alot of small shops and shopping complex where we head to find good bargain. But izzit me or what, I find things there are not so “bargainable” now, which my gf agreed too…
they were also generally not so friendly anymore… hmmm…..

Anyway, after a tired shopping trip, we dragged ourselves back to our htl to rest and relax first, before we bathe, change and head to the Pathuwan Night Market, which is just downsides OPP our hotel!
In the end, there was nuthing much to shop le… hmm… just alot of people. Something like our pasar malam.

From the Pathuwan Night Market, we head back to our hotel to change into something nicer, and we hail a taxi to go to The States Building, where there is a SKY BAR situated at the highest level.
The view from the bar outdoor was breathtaking. Service was excellent. Perhaps you may say that “of course, it was a classier place”, but thats precisely! Bcoz you paidfor the service, and it did made us feel good as customers. The wait staff were polite, & courteous… hmm, totally unlike at our hotel!

Anyway, we ended the night, chilled out, chit chatted and enjoyed the beautiful night scenery of BKK city.

The 2nd day morning, we went to Cha-tuk-chak Weekend market, coz it opens early in the morning but closed at 6pm. Shopping there was damn hot & stuffy, cant seem to stop sweating, like in sauna, haha.
But we really shopped till our hearts contents. I would really advise to just wear singlets, spagetti-strip tops, and shorts. Anything that will not suffocate u and its airy enough. Plus flip-flops. Or maybe even sports wear material, bcoz it dries up faster, wahaha…. you may want to drink more H2O, but I would advise to do it only when you are very thirsty, coz its like a maze there, and difficult to find toilets.

Also to facilitate and find your way, there are maps available at the information booth. In fact, all the sections there were numbered, but no guaranteed can find back the stall where you want to buy your missed items, haha. Coz too many small shops around, doubt a normal person can remember which section the shop is at. U get what I mean? So the moral of the story: Be decisivie in buying and don regret :)
One thing to be caution during shopping, alway keep a lookout for your wallets & money. As pickpockets there are aplenty.
Best to avoid a haversack, just a sling bag will do. As its very crowded there and the walk ways between the rows of shops are small, you will tend to neglect your belongings and give them easy access.

The tidbits there also makes us go crazy, wahaha… most of them you can hardly find in Sing. And we also have a hard time bargaining with the tidbits stall auntie. The funny thing was, we spotted the stall earlier, and got over excited, started to choose the different variety by the packets and boxes…. then my gf asked how are we going to shop with this heavy load?? And in the end, we strike a deal with the auntie, by placing a 100baht deposit and will come back for the rest later on. If in the event, we did not go back, she also stand to gain and not lose anything. Some smart aleck we were, hee….. but hey, with the map, we managed to find the stall ok!

Shopping at CTC was the most fruitful. I spent most of my $$ there, hee. We lugged all shoppings back to the htl first, coz we really need to take a break and get some air-con. BKK weather was scorching hot. Heard that March to June is usually the hottest season.

Back at the hotel, we rested, displayed all our purchases all over the hotel room floor (datz how spacious our room is) and took a pic of it.
SATISFACTION! Lolzz… Well, most of them were bought for kins and frenz.

Next, we head out insearch of the authentic thai food. We went to Central World Plaza. Its a new place, with all the high end boutiques and resturants. Many of the shops are not even opened yet. Guess not quite the place for us shopping after buying so many cheap things. But we ended up eating at one of the resturant there. Well, we were drawn to the nice decor. The food was not really authentic, the tom yam soup more sour than spicy. I find it so so only.

We spotted the boutique NARAYA. According to my gf, its the so call branded in Thailand. Well, I’ve never heard of it, but find the quality not bad. Great as gift ideas also.
Oh, btw, its selling alot of different designs & sizes of bags & pouches. Think ladies will like it, coz I see alot of ladies & aunties in the shop. Ahem, me & gf are ladies hor, lolzz….
The prices are not very ex, about 60baht (S$3) for a small coin pouch to less than S$10 for a set of pouches with 3 different designs.
We spent quite awhilez in there, indecisive over which design, which size, which colour to buy etc…. haha.

Our last stop of the night was Suen Lam Night Market. Its meant mostly for tourist I guess, as there were money changer, ATMS, Foot-massage shops. And also the layout of the shops are more neat and clean there. Just when my $ is running out, I get to see alot of things that I want to buy… $ Not Enuf, haha.
Luckily one of my gf acted like our “money changer”, coz she hardly spend, so we borrow from her first and return her in Sing Dollars. But to take note, the shops there closed early at about 1am.
We went there only after taking the Ferris Wheel ride and makan. That was our supper, and much more tastier.

Finally, we headed back to htl to pack our stuff and prepared to go home the next day. Sob Sob.
The hilarious thing was, we tried all ways & means to stuff everything. Yes, you heard it correctly, EVERYTHING!! including tidbits into the luaggage. Wahaha!! I was damn fraid my luaggage would explode that after struggling to close it, I do not dare to open it again the next day. ;p

Finally after 2 hours plus flight, it was Home Sweet Home. Can finally have a good sleep.

Meanwhile, still sorting and editing my pictures. Will upload them in my next blog.

Ciao!!! (^-^)

Music & Lyrics

March 9th, 2007 by kim-angelyn

09/03/07 - Fri

Just in case you were wondering about the above title, well its a movie I watched yesterday. A romantic comedy starring Hugh Grant as Alex Fletcher & Drew Berrymore as Sophie Fisher.

To quote the synopsis @ Yahoo;

“Alex Fletcher is a washed-up ’80s pop star who’s been reduced to working the nostalgia circuit at county fairs and amusement parks. The charismatic and talented musician gets a chance at a comeback when reigning diva Cora Corman invites him to write and record a duet with her, but there’s a problem–Alex hasn’t written a song in years, he’s never written lyrics, and he has to come up with a hit in a matter of days. Enter Sophie Fisher, Alex’s beguilingly quirky plant lady, whose flair for words strikes a chord with the struggling songwriter. On the rebound from a bad relationship, Sophie is reluctant to collaborate with anyone, especially commitment-phobe Alex. As their chemistry heats up at the piano and under it, Alex and Sophie will have to face their fears–and the music–if they want to find the love and success they both deserve.

I like Drew Berrymore, even though she may not be the prettiest hollywood actress, but she seems to exude a kind of whimsical attractiveness and I kind of like her dressing style in the movie too, sometimes laid back, sometimes abit glamour & bohemian. On the other hand, Hugh Grant has aged alot …. Time really can’t deceive one’s age indeed. Nevetheless, I must say that he acted well in the show, comical (esp with the dancing and the wig in the MTV of POP) LOLZ….

There was a scene which kind of touched my heart, whereby Alex composed a song himself for Sophie and sang it at the performance. Despite that he is supposedly to be hopeless in composing lyrics.
It is sooo romantic…. call me a sucker for romance, but how I wish the one in my life will do something really special for me. Its really the thoughts that counts and the heart that matters …

Ok, back to the movie. Sans most typical romantic comedy, there is always the “Happily-Ever After” ending.

My after thoughts……I feel that Love, in this case I mean the initial passion will come and go before you know it. (You know the falling head over heel feeilings, where your heart will beat faster, and you get butterflies in the stomach.) But for a couple to stay committed with each other, it definately takes alot more, and that includes having common passion or interest and to cheer & support one another in difficult times, and to share the joy in good times. To compromise, and to be able to have endless to chat about…

Sounds too unrealistic?? Well….whoever say managing a relationship/ marriage is easy. It has never been.

Especially with so many temptations out there…. who can guarantee anything…..

Anyway, do catch this movie for the unusual pairing of Grant & Berrymore.

Enjoy & relax for the weekend…

HaPPy “Oink Oink” Year to All My Frenz

February 24th, 2007 by kim-angelyn

24/02/07 - Saturday,

Dear frenz, hope it is not too late to wish everyone here a very Happy & Prosperous “Oink Oink” year, hee… (^.^)

So, how did you spend yours? Well, for me I ate quite alot, esp bak kua, now i see it also scared… plus watch alot of tv programmes, and ate alot of other junk food (new year goodies) as well. Certainly not a very healthy way to spend the new year, but what the heck…. its only once a year.

Is it me or what ….. somehow I feels that CNY has already lost its meaning as the years went by. And certainly it is not as fun as when we were a kid. But of course, as a child, we were free of worries and so much carefree…

I’m even contemplating to go on a holiday during the next cny…. haha…. we’ll see about that….

Anyway, I believe this new “piggy year” will be really lucky and a great start in whatever I do.

Also wishes all of you Health, Wealth and Luck for the new year. GongXi Fai Cai!
